History: This pony’s registered name is Prince of Tides but around the barn, we call him José. In his former career as a hunter-jumper show pony, he helped teach his previous owner to ride. Although José used to fly around the jump course, he now helps our riders’ spirits soar through his job as a therapy pony. Despite his small size, his big heart and attentiveness to his rider makes him the perfect Hippotherapy pony. He is also a great first ride for some of our smaller therapeutic riding students. The smallest of the herd, José is hard to miss, especially with his distinct markings and trendy haircut!

History: After spending many hours on the trails in Parkland, Florida, this beautiful, blue-eyed, Paint discovered a new life as a therapy horse. Frisco “Forty-Niner”, simply called Frisco, is always on a mission whether in the pasture or in a class. His big steady walk and strong build provide great benefits to students needing more therapeutic muscle stimulation and make him a favorite with young and old students alike. Frisco is always looking for a little extra treat and still enjoys morning walks through the trails around the barn.

History: Chico began his career on the Polo fields and later became a lesson horse. Many aspiring equestrians learned the basics of horseback riding on Chico’s steady back. In 1993, at the young age of 20, Chico joined our herd and participated in both Hippotherapy and Therapeutic Riding lessons. Throughout the years, Chico helped disabled students of all ages achieve their horseback riding dreams. Although Chico is no longer active in the mounted program, he still serves as a therapy horse, patiently letting the students and new volunteers learn the basics of horsemanship. Now semi-retired, Chico enjoys his status as the elder statesman of the herd, surrounded by loving volunteers and students. His healthy, glistening coat and thick curly mane and tail, give few clues to Chico’s advanced age.

History: After experiencing success in the show ring, Star’s owner decided to find him a home where he could continue to help others shine. Through his career as a therapy pony, Star makes his riders comfortable and even first-time riders quickly find confidence as they learn riding basics. With an even stride and comfortable gait Star is a natural for Hippotherapy sessions. Even the smallest students find therapy fun on Star’s able back. His background as a show pony also makes him a natural for independent riders. Yearning for the adoration of the horse show audience, Star discovered that it is better to be one of the favorite horses in a therapy barn. This pony certainly is a shining Star in our therapy herd!

History: Rocstar, affectionately called Rocky, is one of the hardest working horses in the barn. Blessed with a strong neck and wide, straight back Rocky is perfectly suited for students of all ages and sizes. His calm demeanor makes him a great horse for everyone from beginners to more independent, advanced riders. Rocky loves working as a therapy horse and his riders benefit by finding a sense of independence and freedom, becoming Rock Stars on an equine stage.

History: With a flaxen mane and tail, Hallory could easily be on the cover of Horse & Rider magazine! A purpose-driven life is more her style, so Hallory works hard as a therapy horse. One of the most versatile horses in the barn, Hallory carries riders in therapeutic riding, Hippotherapy and interactive vaulting lessons. As a cornerstone in our vaulting program, Hallory is patient and supportive with students as they refine their vaulting skills. A beautiful mover, Hallory is not only a great Hippotherapy horse, but also provides the perfect challenge for more advanced riders. When it comes to leisure time, Hallory’s favorite activity is grazing with her best friend José!

History: Hailing from Alabama, Fred started his career as a roping horse. This early training helped Fred to develop the balanced, smooth gaits that make him a wonderful therapy horse. Due in large part to his strength, Fred is the perfect horse for larger and adult riders. His striking coat, with large white spots, is the perfect training ground for all students who want to become proficient at grooming. A very dutiful and conscientious horse, Fred makes all his students’ horseback riding wishes come true!

History: Fire, the youngest horse in the herd, is one of our most motivational equine stories. Just hours away from slaughter, he was saved by Jennifer Swanson of Pure Thoughts and Foal Rescue. His spirit, height, and strong build make Fire the perfect mount for even our smallest students. Everyday, Fire learns more about being a therapy horse and is developing into an integral part of the therapy program. Fire’s patience with young, novice riders inspires self-confidence, making him an ideal horse for independent riders.

History: Donated in 2007 by Linda Harnum, Lido is a Parelli-method trained horse. Before embarking on his career as a therapy horse, Lido found success in the show ring, winning blue ribbons in both the hunter and training level dressage rings. Using these experiences as building blocks, Lido now enthusiastically helps our riders hone their riding skills. His size and calm demeanor makes him a great horse for our adult students. Whether working on riding fundamentals or taking a leisurely walk through the park trails, Lido helps students of all ages achieve their visions of equestrian excellence!
